Matilda
Produced in the Cullum Theatre at The American Theatre of Actors. Designed with 12 lecos, 4 LED White PARS, 2 LED moving Fresnels, 8 LED PARs, 4 LED moving spots and 2 LED follow spots.
The show is presented through Matilda's eyes so I focused on colors to help tell the story. Each of the main characters was given a color so that when they were the focus of a scene we would follow their color story. The biggest challenge designing this show was that the projectors had to be hung in front due to having no upstage space. So trying to balance light reaching the faces of the actors without completely washing out the projectors became a big focus.
Bells Are Ringing
Produced in the Lion Theater (now called Theatre One) at Theatre Row. Designed with 18 Ellipsoids, 4 Fresnels, 4 PARs, 2 LED moving Fresnels, 2 LED moving spots, and 2 follow spots.
This golden age musical called for a mix of typical bright musical comedy lighting, and moodier lighting for back alley dealings, subway rides, night time strolls, and the act two turn. Given the limited resources the follow spots were heavily relied on to light faces and the LED Fresnels to set moods and provide color. The rest of the lights created the dimension and lit the ensemble.
